Bespoke Timber Bi-Folding Doors in London
So many kitchen extensions across North London — particularly around Islington and Hackney — feel oddly disconnected from the garden they look out onto. Our bespoke timber bi-folding doors fix that, dissolving the wall between inside and out while keeping your home warm, secure, and true to its period character.
We custom-build every set of bi-folding doors to suit the exact opening, so they comply with current building regulations without compromising the look of an older property. Whether you're opening up a Victorian rear extension or a modern garden room, the doors are made to measure and finished to your specification.
The result is a seamless transition from kitchen to garden — flooding the room with natural light and making even a modest space feel considerably larger.
Why Choose Timber Bi-Folding Doors?
Timber vs. Aluminium Bi-Folds
Most installers reach for aluminium, but metal is a poor insulator — it conducts the cold straight into your room in winter. Engineered timber, primarily Accoya®, removes that cold-bridge effect entirely, because wood simply doesn't transfer temperature the way metal does. Your room stays warmer through the coldest months.
Timber also belongs in a period home. Its natural warmth sits beautifully against Victorian and Georgian brickwork and the greenery of a garden, where a harsh metal frame can look out of place. And unlike uPVC — which yellows under UV and can never be refreshed — a well-maintained timber door can be repainted indefinitely as your colour scheme changes.
All of our timber is sourced from sustainably managed forests, so a beautiful set of doors also carries a genuine environmental benefit.
How We Build Our Bi-Folding Doors
We build using engineered timber, typically Accoya®, chosen for its exceptional stability. Here's what comes as standard:
No Warping
Accoya® resists swelling and warping from moisture, so the doors glide smoothly year-round through humid summers and wet London winters.
Multi-Point Locking
Locks secure the frame in several places rather than a single central point — strong resistance to forced entry and real peace of mind.
Argon Double Glazing
High-performance argon-filled units cut heat loss across large spans of glass and dampen street noise at the same time.
Flexible Configurations
Choose your slide direction and add an optional traffic door, so a single leaf can open for everyday use without folding back the whole set.
How We Handle the Installation
A bi-folding door is only as good as its fit. Get it wrong by a few millimetres and the doors stick and drag for years. We work to millimetre precision from the very first measurement.
It starts with a detailed site survey to measure your opening exactly — and if the brickwork is slightly out of true, we plan for it before fabrication begins. Once your doors are built, we remove the old frame, clean back the masonry, and check the structural lintel. We then secure the outer frame, mount the door leaves on their tracks, and fine-tune every roller for effortless operation. Finally we verify the weather seals, test the multi-point locks, apply the sealant, and leave the site spotless.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why choose timber bi-folding doors over aluminium?
Metal frames conduct heat and create cold bridges in winter. Engineered timber — primarily Accoya® — doesn't transfer temperature the way aluminium does, so it keeps your room warmer. Timber also suits the brickwork of Victorian and Georgian homes far better than harsh metal frames, and it can be repainted indefinitely to match new colour schemes.
-
Are your bi-folding doors secure?
Yes. Our doors use multi-point locking systems that secure the frame in several places rather than a single central point, giving strong resistance to forced entry. Combined with high-performance double glazing, they offer real peace of mind when you're away from home.
-
Will the doors warp or stick over time?
We build with engineered timber, typically Accoya®, which resists swelling and warping from moisture. That means smooth operation all year round, through humid summers and wet London winters. Precise installation also ensures the doors never drag or catch.
-
How long does a bi-folding door installation take?
Most installations are completed within one to two days once the doors have been fabricated. The process begins with a detailed site survey to measure the opening precisely, followed by removal of the old frame, fitting of the new outer frame and door leaves, roller adjustment, and final sealing.
