The Project
This Central London homeowner had two original sash windows in their Edwardian property that had reached the end of their serviceable life. Rather than patch and repair, they chose full replacement — retaining the period character of the home while upgrading to modern performance standards.
Golden Ratio replaced both windows with bespoke timber sash units. The larger window, located in the main living area, features a classic Edwardian arrangement with decorative glazing bars in the upper sash — a design detail that would have been typical of the original construction. The smaller window, serving the bathroom, was fitted with privacy glass and brass-finished hardware to match the home's interior aesthetic.
The Work
Both frames were manufactured off-site to the precise measurements of the existing openings, minimising disruption to the property. The installation team completed the full job across two days, including fitting, finishing, and returning to address a minor snag — a level of follow-through that the homeowner specifically highlighted in their review.
Each window was fitted with draught-proofing as standard, significantly improving the thermal performance of the rooms. Edwardian sash windows are notoriously draughty when original; replacing with a properly fitted modern timber unit makes a measurable difference to warmth and energy bills.
